Richard Saunders

Silver print

Here, Saunders plays with perspective, shooting from ground level to direct the gaze upwards. The rocks rise to meet Dr Siegfried Horn of Andrews University, Michigan, who faces away from the camera, framed by the crowds who gather in the distance, looking down at him expectantly.

Local photographer Hilton Hill, who worked with Saunders in Bermuda early in his career, once remarked: “Richard was able to develop drama in his pictures which most of us weren’t able to do.”
