Jeff Koons is an artist who is perhaps best known for his large-scale works that play with familiar objects and symbols from our everyday lives. He merges Pop, Conceptual, and appropriation art with craft-making and popular culture to create his own unique visual vocabulary. His work explores contemporary societal issues around desire; race and gender; and celebrity, media, commerce.
Since his first solo exhibition in 1980, Koons’s work has been shown in major galleries and institutions throughout the world. His work was the subject of a major exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Jeff Koons: A Retrospective (2014), which traveled to the Centre Pompidou Paris (2015) and the Guggenheim Bilbao (2015). A solo exhibition of recent works from the Gazing Ball series is on view at Gagosian, New York (2018).
