I had the idea to focus on our underwater environment, which led me to the concept of our ancestors who chose rebellion during the Middle Passage, and to imagine how their lives continued after their bodies were flung into the Atlantic Ocean. I was thinking of their resilience, and the quest to get their freedom back, combined with a sort of macromutation or adaptive radiation, which allowed them to survive and thrive within the Atlantic Ocean. Shown here: study for final piece.
