Rainbow In The Dark

Zach Reini

Latex, cut canvas

2015

18 x 18 inches

Zach Reini is a contemporary painter and sculptor who lives and works in Denver, Colorado. He received his BFA from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2012.

Reini’s work has clear connections to the original Pop Art style. He recycles cultural and commercial symbols, that he then abstracts in a new way, removing them from their historical origins. In reducing the forms to their barest essentials, he allows the viewer to fill in the image from a new perspective.

This is evident in this work of Mickey Mouse; cut out of the canvas he presents a new meaning to the cultural icon we all know.  This decoding and identifying is of great interest to Reini, particularly when juxtaposed with the instant satisfaction of the internet and other popular media.
