Conceived as a partner painting to The Spirit of Bermuda, Ship’s Pilot captures Kristen Greene at the bow of the Spirit of Bermuda.
Greene took part in the Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s M3 Student Voyager programme in 2006. The middle school programme, which forms part of the Bermuda school curriculum, is considered a rite of passage for local school children. The five-day residential programme challenges students aged 12-15 to become trainee crew members for the duration of their stay aboard the ship.
An award-winning experiential platform which combines hands-on sailing experience with STEAM principles and the historical importance of Bermuda, it has been shown to develop responsibility, accountability, self-confidence and team building skills. Greene went on to work as watch leader on the Spirit of Bermuda for two years (2010/11) and now works as a Master Mariner in the global marine industry.
