the earth laughs in flowers

16mm film transferred to HD video

2025

Run time 1:39 min.

This silent 16mm film utilises in-camera double exposures to layer the floral bursts of colour and light found on the island of my childhood, Bermuda, with those of my current home, San Francisco. Presented in silence to allow the visual rhythm to breathe, the film collapses the distance between two distinct geographies through the physical mechanism of the camera. The result is a landscape experienced not as a geographic place, but as a visceral, luminous event.
