Mixed media artist William Collieson was a leading figure in
Bermuda’s contemporary art scene for six decades. A twelve time Bermuda Biennial artist, he is also remembered by many
for his unusual window displays for H A & E Smith Ltd, where
he was the Window Display Manager for over 40 years.
Collieson applied the same sense of storytelling to his fine art
practice which centred on assemblage and installation, using
natural materials and found objects to layer narratives. He said:
“As an artist, I hope to create work that gives the viewer a new
perspective on the world around them.”
A retrospective of William Collieson’s work was held at the
Bermuda National Gallery in 2011. He was awarded a Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Bermuda Arts Council in 2015.
