Silverpoint on Masonite panel

2025

12 x 12 in.

Having taught art history for about 50 years, I am interested in, and intrigued by, historic materials, including that of metal point. As a drawing material it is ancient, going back to at least Roman times. Wells is a silverpoint drawing on a Masonite panel that has been primed with white gesso. It is inspired by a unique arch at the transept of Wells Cathedral, the earliest English cathedral in the Gothic style, to which I have long been drawn.
