Melanie Eddy, a Bermudian jewellery designer based in London, brings a unique perspective to contemporary jewellery, drawing deeply from her island heritage. Her bold geometric designs, inspired by the interplay of light, architecture, and the landscape of Bermuda, have gained her international recognition, with recent exhibitions at Sotheby’s (NYC and London) and a commission from the Victoria & Albert Museum, where her work is now part of the permanent collection.
In this artist talk, Melanie will discuss her journey from Bermuda to London, the significance of place in her work, and how her connection to Bermuda continues to shape her creative process. She will delve into the inspiration behind her distinctive use of triangles, symbolic of both the Bermuda Triangle and the island’s historical role in the British Atlantic, and explain how the simplicity of Bermuda’s architecture and the sharp shadows of its sunlight influence her aesthetic.
Melanie describes her jewellery as “intimate architecture,” exploring the relationship between form and space and how design transforms environments. She invites the audience to consider how these ideas translate into wearable art, offering a rare glimpse into the mind of a designer whose work is a meditation on the memories and essence of Bermuda.
