Call for Volunteers

Join the BNG Team

Volunteers are at the heart of Bermuda National Gallery. As a non-profit (registered charity #288), the gallery could not operate without the hard work and commitment of our dedicated group of volunteers.

Now – we encourage you to join that team!

Our volunteers bring diverse skills and knowledge that complement and supplement those of our small staff. From art lovers who dedicate their time to greeting and guiding visitors through the space, to educators and docents inspiring the next generation, volunteers are the very backbone of BNG.

Volunteering also benefits those who share their time. Whether you are embarking upon a career in the arts, interested in building your network, or value forging deeper connections with your community, volunteering at BNG is a great way to explore and develop your skills and interests, at any age!

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • Front Desk Reception – We are looking for new volunteers who are able to commit to a weekly or biweekly shift on the front desk. The gallery has two volunteer reception shifts daily: Tues-Fri 10am-1pm and 1-4pm; Sat 10am-12pm and 12-2pm. We are also always looking for volunteers for shift coverage, so if your availability is flexible but you cannot commit to a weekly or biweekly slot, please reach out.

  • Education Docents – We are looking for individuals who would be interested in serving as education docents and give tours to school groups. Tours are approximately 45 minutes in length and the tour schedule is variable, depending on when tours are booked.

  • Install Assistants – We are looking for individuals who would like to assist with installation during exhibition changeover. Schedule varies according to exhibition changeover dates; Monday through Friday during BNG office hours.
Volunteer Jocelyn Morrison welcomes visitors at the BNG front desk.

Training will be provided for all roles. Please fill out our volunteer interest form, or contact Volunteer Coordinator and Operations Officer Lara Hetzel at operations@bng.bm or 295-9428.

Why Get Involved?

Hear from current BNG volunteers on their experiences.

“I think volunteering is a great opportunity for those interested in a career in the arts. I’ve learned so much about the art scene in Bermuda, along with the day-to-day work that goes into operating an art museum.“

Sophia Tessitore

I’m always amazed to see the response from first time local visitors.  They are surprised to see world class exhibits so close to home. My volunteering, along with many others, makes this possible.

Gail Geiger

“Meeting all the different people who come through the doors is great fun! The events are so lovely and such a pleasure to be a part of. Most of all, the deeper connection to the artwork has changed the way I experience the pieces and installations in this gallery.”
