Members Preview: Offerings

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Members’ Preview of Offerings by Soleé Darrell. Offerings is Darrell’s first solo show in Bermuda. The exhibition builds on Darrell’s inclusion in the 2024 Bermuda Biennial, a key turning point in her career which marked both her first time exhibiting in Bermuda, and in a museum setting. Later that year, Darrell was selected for the Emerging Artists Program at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) and her work is now held in several public collections including SFMOMA. 

Offerings presents seven large-scale paintings created on stretched velvet which were first shown at MoAD, alongside a new site-specific installation created especially for the Bermuda National Gallery which pays homage to her home country and its enduring influence on her artistic practice.

Members’ Preview: Pencil to Puppet

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the members’ preview of The Art of Michael K. Frith: From Pencil to Puppet. The exhibition is a chronological journey over the course of Frith’s life, which literally starts with a pencil and ends with puppets. Approximately 350 works are on display, ranging from advertisements drawn for Masters Limited in Frith’s teenage years to original character sketches done during his time at the Jim Henson Company.

The exhibition includes newspaper clipping from Frith’s childhood, covers designed for the Harvard Lampoon, concept sketches for Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street books, endless character designs and, of course, puppets.

The Charles Zuill Project Space has been turned into a Puppet Workshop and Theatre, with opportunities for visitors to design, make and then utilize stick puppets.

Member’s Preview: Andy Warhol

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the members’ preview of Andy Warhol: Portraits from The Factory. The exhibition is produced in partnership with the Green family and we would like to extend a sincere thank you to them for the generous loan of these artworks. 

This exhibition is the fourth in a series that we have had held showcasing the Green family’s private collection. The first, Rebel with A Cause: Shepard Fairey, was held in 2017; followed by What’s Poppin’: Pop Art and Its Influence, held in 2019, and most recently, Simplicity of Form: Unfolding Abstraction in 2023.

Curated by Eve Godet-Thomas, Andy Warhol: Portraits from The Factory displays artworks created between 1967 and 1987 in Factory Additions, Warhol’s screen-printing business which pioneered a commercial approach to art making.

Every BNG exhibition is accompanied by a BNG Kids Activity Book. For this exhibition, the activity book gives information about the artist, encourages young people to try their hand at drawing portraits and has an interactive component in the Gallery where young people can use an instant camera to capture the subject of their portrait.

Curator Led Tours

Mitchell Klink Bermuda National Gallery

Saturday, May 15

To celebrate the re-opening of the gallery, we are inviting BNG members to join guest curator Mitchell Klink this Saturday, May 15 for a tour of Illusion & Abstraction: Capturing the Landscape. 

Tours will be taking place at 10.30am and 12.30pm. Numbers are limited to 10 per group and tickets, which are free of charge, must be booked in advance. Click here to RSVP.

Member Previews

Spring Exhibitions

We have two new exhibitions opening next week. Sadly we are unable to have an opening party given the restrictions limiting the gathering of people to 25. We will instead be hosting a small evening event for those directly involved in the exhibitions. 

We will, however, be open exclusively for member previews on Saturday 6th from 10am to 2pm and from Tuesday 9th through to Thursday 11th March from 10am to 4pm.

We will also be hosting an artist lecture by Gherdai Hassell in association with the Department of Culture on the evening of Thursday 11th March. Tickets will be strictly limited. Keep an eye on your inbox to be the first to hear about it.
