2024 Junior Bermuda Biennial

The Junior Bermuda Biennial is a new addition to the Bermuda National Gallery’s flagship exhibition. Like its adult counterpart, the Junior Biennial provides our island’s youngest artists – aged 5 to 17 – with a national platform and encourages them to push the boundaries of their creativity.

The inaugural Junior Bermuda Biennial is juried by Molly Bretton, Head of Learning at the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in London. Over 600 artworks were submitted to the open call, from which 83 have been selected for this exhibition, based on originality, unique imagination and technical skill.

“We know that the art world is poorer when we ignore, exclude or ‘other’ aspects of creativity from our history and experience of artmaking,” explains Molly Bretton. “Childhood culture is an important element in our national and universal culture and equipping young artists with opportunities to know, understand, exchange and develop cultural expressions amongst and for themselves is vital. Which is why this inaugural Junior Bermuda Biennial is such an important exhibition. Aside from celebrating the individual artists and showcasing their exceptional artworks, it forms an important part of building a richer art world that respects and celebrates children’s part in human creativity.”
