With Abi Box
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for the monotype printing workshop with Abi Box, which was inspired by her current exhibition Identical Days, in which the British artist, who has been based in Bermuda for 5 years, explores the possibilities of monotype printing.
Abi led the group on a private tour of her exhibition, before taking them through the process of a creating a monotype print – in which a unique print is pulled by hand from paint applied directly onto a Plexiglass plate – before turning it over to each of the participants to create a monotype of their own.
Box likens the effect of painting on Plexiglass to painting on canvas. “It is a flexible, forgiving way of creating a picture. No mark is fixed, and the paint can be pushed and moved around,” she says. “It allows me to indulge in the grittiness and unpredictability of paint.”
Like Abi, the participants worked in watercolour, which pools and fragments on the surface, creating a sense of abstraction in the printed image.
We will be hosting a second Monotype Workshop in May to celebrate the close of the exhibition. Details will be released soon. Members will be given priority booking and a discount on the ticket price. If you are interested in attending, make sure that you renew/take out a membership today and this one sold out in two hours!
