Run for the Arts

2023

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the inaugural BNG Run For The Arts 5k, sponsored by Chubb. Over 240 runners and walkers came out for the unique North Hamilton route, which began and ended at the Parsons Road Playground on Sunday, April 23rd.

The event was sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletics Association and timing was supplied by Bermuda Timing Systems.

We would like to extend a big thank you to photographer Nhuri Bashir for coming to us with this idea and to Domico Watson and Donna Raynor for working tirelessly to help make it a reality.

This was not just a race but a community endeavour. Participants helped raise funds for the arts, including:

  • The installation of three large scale murals in North-East Hamilton as part of a new vibrant public art programme in the area.
  • A paid placement on the Bermuda National Gallery internship programme for a student from the area.
  • Support for BNG’s education programmes.
Photographs (throughout) by Tony Bean.

Peter Lapsley, Executive Director of the Bermuda National Gallery said: “The event went better than we could have anticipated and the feedback has been incredibly positive. It was a great course, a beautiful day and there was positive community engagement. There will be public art installed, a new work development intern at BNG (Jasmeen Codrington-Edmead who will join us for three months) and we have raised funds for arts education. It was a great day.”

Installation of murals in the area will begin shortly, including designs by Alshanté Foggo and DaeNycé Rabain. The third mural is being selected and will announced shortly.

Nhuri Bashir addded: “It was truly awesome to see people coming together to run, walk and support the community and the arts. A big thank you to all who volunteered and supported!”
