RUN FOR THE ARTS
MURAL PROGRAMME

The inaugural BNG Run for The Arts 5K sponsored by Chubb, organised by Nhuri Bashir and Bermuda National Gallery, in collaboration with Donna Raynor and Domico Watson, was conceived of as not just a race, but a community endeavour – a chance to support the vibrant atmosphere in North-East Hamilton, and to help raise funds for the arts!

The race supports three key initiatives:

1

A vibrant public art programme, with the installation of additional large-scale murals in the North-East Hamilton area, created by local artists to highlight and promote the area’s communities.

2

A paid placement on the BNG Internship Programme for a student from the area, providing professional development in all aspects of museum operations, and opening the door to a career in the arts.

3

Bermuda National Gallery’s education department and 2023 programming, offering enriching educational experiences in the arts for learners of all ages, including tours and materials.

2024 MURAL

2024’s mural was selected by a committee including race organiser and artist Nhuri Bashir and representatives of Bermuda National Gallery.

Love Thy Neighbor (Completed 2025)
by Shanna Hollis

Shanna Hollis is a Bermudian graphic designer and the Chair of the Bermuda Arts Council. Hollis’s designs are recognized for their vibrant color choices and bold patterns, and her work celebrates her island, community, identity, and personal experiences.

Hollis emphasizes that she wants her work to carry a message of unity. She says: “Everybody needs to remember to go about every day treating people how you want to be treated. Just as people don’t know what’s going on in your life, you don’t know what’s going on in theirs. We just need to have a little bit more care, and a little bit more love in the way we treat each other.” She adds: “I wanted it to be a call-out for people to stop, pause and breathe.”
